I am very proud to be a member of the Magic Circle but based in Yorkshire I sadly don’t get visit our HQ as often as I`d like, but always cherish the times when I can. But there are some nights I could never miss, and the annual awards evening is one such occasion. It’s tremendous fun, and as a performer I always take inspiration from the event and listening to the stories of those being recognised.
Last night was certainly no exception and I had an amazing time catching up magical friends, and watching very talented individuals win awards.
Our societies president, Scott Penrose MIMC, presented the following awards;
The David Devant Award for Services to International magic:
Silvan MIMC
The Maskelyne Award for Services to British magic:
Debbie McGee MIMC
The Carlton Award for outstanding comedy in magic:
Pete Firman
The Cecil Lyle Award for Best Trick Published in The Magic Circular:
Barry Cooper AIMC.
The John Neil Maskelyne Prize for noteworthy contributions to the art or literature of magic:
Ricky Jay
Silver Wands were also presented to:
Margaret MacLean AIMC & David Weeks MIMC
The Gold Medal:
Professor Edwin Dawes MIMC
(only 10 of these, including last night, have ever been handed out in Magic Circle history!)
A huge congratulations to all of the winners, every single prize wholeheartedly deserved.
